How to Make Your Email Stand Out from the Crowd

by Kavya Sebastian

Admit it. You’ve deleted newsletters from your inbox without even opening them to see their contents. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. According to a McKinsey analysis, the average full-time worker receives 120 business emails a day (as in, not including personal emails).

That being said, it’s not hopeless and you should definitely still be using email marketing for your business to stand out from the crowd.

Not convinced?

Fast Facts About Using Email

This is where many brands go wrong: their emails are just not interesting at first glance. As email marketers, we have to keep in mind that it is at least 120 emails harder to stand out from the crowd if you’re the one sending emails and newsletters. If your subject line or preview does not jump out at your customer, they will never open it.

If you have a low open rate on your newsletters, you could be making mistakes that are costing you customers. But, have no fear. Our team of email marketers at Champ put together three easy fixes to make your email communication stand out in your customers’ inboxes.

3 Ways to Make An Email Stand Out

  1. Be Personal

  2. Take a cue from your personal life and use a short, stand out subject line with a conversational tone. Instead of communicating like a business, communicate like a friend while implementing your brand voice. Think: “Let’s Chat” or “Hey, are you ready?” and fine-tune it for your business. While it is certainly not your typical business-style, it allows you to form a more intimate and personal connection with your customers.

  3. Use Emojis

  4. There’s a reason why big brands now have custom emojis – they stand out and get attention. Add an emoji or symbol ($, @) to your next email campaign for visual impact, and watch for an increase in your open rate.

  5. Make the Email About the Reader (“You”, Not You)

  6. Remember that it is all about the reader. Your audience should feel like you are speaking directly with them. Instead of phrases like “We’re excited!”, reword your subject lines and body content to make it all about “you”, such as “You’ll love this!”. A personal call-out to the reader creates an action response.

The key here is to break away from the typical business email communication. Your audience is uniquely yours, so this may take some A/B testing to get it right, and that’s okay. Stand out by showing off your brand personality and focusing on building meaningful relationships with your customers - you’ll be getting insane open rates in no time.
